Children need an education in order for them to succeed in life. I believe it is very important to assess each child’s strengths and weaknesses and to instruct accordingly. As teachers, parents entrust their children to us with the understanding that we will help their children adapt to the world. Guide them to work with peers and prepare them for a life after school. When we accept this responsibility, we have a duty to do everything in our power to prepare the children for the next level of their education and ultimately prepare them to be well adjusted members of society. With committed parents and willing students, I become very excited at the opportunity to have a part in each child’s development.
We live in a fast paced and ever progressing society, and in order for our youth to keep up with the changing times, they need for them to be knowledgeable in all aspects of education. Teachers need to incorporate various teaching strategies into their lessons. I integrate numerous teaching methods into each lesson by differentiating each lesson and using hands on activities, technology, group discussions, and activities. We provide children with knowledge in each subject, but we also provide an environment that the children can use to prepare them to work with each other and learn how to succeed. Education is a never ending staircase. Children need to learn step by step in order to achieve their goals and there will always be more steps for them to climb after a goal is reached. As a teacher, I will pride myself in helping my students reach their goals knowing that I was there to guide them along the way.
Teachers should set individual goals for each student according to the child’s strengths and weaknesses. The goals should be challenging, but also realistic. When the child succeeds, we need to make sure that the child is rewarded. The rewards may be as simple as a kind word. Each student needs to know he has succeeded and by praising him when he does something well, we can build self-esteem and help our students enjoy their educational experience.
I believe that my role as a teacher includes being knowledgeable, caring, understanding, and unbiased with my students. I owe it to my students to be very knowledgeable about the curriculum. I should be able to answer or find the answer to any question that comes up and should be able to explain these answers in a way that the student can understand. Students come from diverse backgrounds, families and living conditions. We, as educators, should not discriminate and provide all students with an equal opportunity to learn and prosper in the educational system. We need to take into consideration their individual situations and understand that the children have diverse challenges aside from schoolwork. I believe that with some help, all children can succeed in school and therefore, succeed in life. Teachers will be faced with many different types of students throughout their career. The diversity of the students is something that I find to be an education for myself. The students can learn about each other and learn many different customs and traditions.
In order to reach all the students teachers will need to incorporate all the teaching techniques that we have learned through our studies and through our experiences. As teachers, it is very important that we keep learning. Learning is the purpose for education and everyone has the ability to learn. Teachers may have to use different approaches or strategies in order to reach some of their students. I feel that all students learn through repetition, reinforcement and caring. When students know that you care, they will respond. We need to keep the families involved in the process and always give the children one hundred percent of our expertise. If we show this level of commitment, I believe we will get the same level of commitment from our students.
We as teachers have the ability to keep the children climbing the educational staircase into adulthood. Each step is one step closer to having a successful adult in society. This is what the students will need to succeed in our educational system and in life.
